Major Port Project Completed in East Africa

01/15/2024

Weihua Group has successfully completed a major port equipment package in East Africa, delivering four ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and six rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes for a new container terminal in Tanzania. All units passed performance testing and entered commercial operation.

The STS cranes are rated at 40.5 tons with outreach and lifting height suited to mainstream ultra-large container vessels, equipped with anti-sway systems, intelligent CMS monitoring, and telescopic spreaders for industry-leading productivity. The six RTGs handle yard stacking and truck loading/unloading with electric drives and variable-frequency control for smooth, energy-efficient operation.

During execution, Weihua coordinated ocean freight, inland transport, and on-site heavy lifts under tropical heat, strong winds, and concurrent construction activities. Detailed project management completed the scope approximately two weeks ahead of the contractual milestone.

The terminal operator confirmed the new equipment will significantly increase throughput and vessel turnaround, supporting trade growth across East Africa. Weihua will provide on-site technical support and operator training during the initial operating period.

Successful delivery strengthens Weihua's brand in the African port machinery market and builds a reference for future terminal expansions and automation upgrades.
